🚀 Dropshare: 5-Minute Setup Guide

Welcome to Dropshare! This quick guide will walk you through everything you need to start sharing files, screenshots, and screen recordings effortlessly. Even if you're completely new to the app, you'll be up and running in just a few minutes.

1. Download Dropshare

Start by downloading Dropshare. You can get it directly from the official website at dropshare.app, which always provides the newest standalone version. If you’re a Setapp subscriber, you can also install Dropshare through the Setapp catalog, where it integrates seamlessly with your subscription. Skip the next step if you're using Setapp. Either option gives you the full, powerful Dropshare experience.

2. Move Dropshare to Your Applications Folder

Once the download is complete, open the .zip file if you installed from the website. Inside, you’ll see Dropshare waiting to be moved. Simply drag and drop the app into your /Applications folder. Installing Dropshare there ensures smooth automatic updates, proper system integration, and access to all macOS features it relies on.

3. Launch Dropshare

After installation, open Dropshare.app from your Applications folder. The app doesn't appear in the Dock - instead, it lives quietly in your menu bar, represented by a small Dropshare icon (same as in the top left of this page). Clicking this icon opens the Dropshare panel, where you can access uploads, preferences, and powerful workflow tools. This lightweight, always-available interface is what makes Dropshare so quick and convenient.

4. Set Up Your First Connection

To begin uploading and sharing content, you’ll need to configure at least one storage connection. If you closed the onboarding window already, click the menu bar icon, then the gear icon, then head to Preferences → Connections. From here, you can choose the upload provider that fits your workflow best. Dropshare guides you through the setup process, helping you enter credentials or authenticate as needed. Once done, your connection becomes the default destination for all uploads. Check out the Connection Types section of this knowledge base for more help.

5. Finish Setup

Before you dive in, it’s worth taking a moment to complete a few final steps that unlock Dropshare’s full potential.

✔️ Grant Required System Permissions

macOS may ask for certain permissions depending on what you want to do with Dropshare. For example, screen recordings require Screen Recording permission. You can manage all required permissions in Preferences → Permissions, or simply approve them when prompted. Granting these ensures Dropshare works smoothly and securely with your system.

⌨️ Configure Keyboard Shortcuts

To fully streamline your workflow, visit Preferences → Shortcuts and set up global hotkeys. These shortcuts let you trigger actions instantly - like taking an annotated screenshot, starting a screen recording, uploading your clipboard, or pulling up your upload history. Once configured, Dropshare becomes one of the fastest ways to capture and share anything on your Mac.

⚙️ Explore Preferences

Dropshare includes a rich set of customization options that let you tailor the app to your needs. In the Preferences window, you’ll find settings for custom landing pages, upload behavior, and more. Spend a moment exploring these to shape Dropshare into a perfect fit for your personal or professional workflow.

🎉 You’re Ready to Share!

With everything set up, you can start using Dropshare immediately. Drag any file onto the menu bar icon, use one of your newly configured shortcuts, or take a screenshot - the upload happens instantly, and your shareable link is ready before you even think about it. If you ever need help, the in-app support options and online knowledge base are always there to guide you.
