AI-Generated Filenames for Screen Shots

Dropshare 6.8 or newer

Dropshare is able to generate a descriptive filename for screen shots, e.g. for making it easier to identify them in your upload history. GPT-5 nano is used to accomplish this.

Retail version

A limited number of daily AI-based screenshot naming is included in your Dropshare license purchase. Select Dropshare 6 to use the built-in screenshot naming.

The quota can be changed at any time, and is granted complimentarily. It can be removed at any time.

Privacy Policy

Dropshare’s AI filename service is optional and must be enabled by the user. When enabled, screenshots and metadata are sent directly to OpenAI to generate filenames; OpenAI’s terms and privacy policy apply to any data they process. Dropshare does not store, log, or persist uploaded content beyond the lifetime of the request, so users remain responsible for ensuring they have the necessary permissions to transmit any personal or confidential data.

Alternative: Use OpenAI API Key

Alternatively, a personal OpenAI API key can be used. OpenAI pricing applies (a subscription to OpenAI is not required to use the API - instead, tokens can be purchased individually for API usage).

First, sign up for an OpenAI account here if you don't have an OpenAI account already. Then, sign in to your account and go to the billing preferences. Add to your credit balance to be able to access GPT-5 nano. Finally, to go API keys and create an API key for Dropshare.

Generating a file name costs currently between 3000-5000 tokens per image when high detail is used for more precise descriptive results, or 1200-2500 tokens when low detail is used. When enabled, every screen shot taken is uploaded to OpenAI for image processing. See data retention.

Dropshare is not responsible for costs that occur when using OpenAI language models. Use at own risk.

Setapp version

AI-based screenshot naming is included for Setapp AI Expert plan subscribers.
