Quick Start
Dropshare doesn't bring its own storage - instead, it works with almost any storage provider you already use or want to use. This flexibility means you can choose the storage solution that best fits your needs, whether it's a cloud service, your own server, or a custom API.
Connection Types
Dropshare supports several categories of storage connections:
📦 Object Storage Services
These are S3-compatible object storage services, perfect for hosting files with direct URLs. Examples include Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, DigitalOcean Spaces, Google Cloud Storage, and many others. These services are ideal if you want full control over your storage and need scalable, cost-effective solutions.
📁 File Storage Services
Traditional cloud file storage services that organize files in folders. Popular options include Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, Box, Nextcloud, and iCloud Drive. These are great if you're already using these services and want to keep everything in one place.
🖼️ Image Storage Services
Specialized services designed for hosting and sharing images. Examples include Flickr, Imgur, ImgBB, Lensdump, and vgy.me. Perfect if you primarily share screenshots and images and want features tailored to visual content.
🔌 Protocol Services
Direct connections using standard protocols like SCP/SSH, SFTP, FTP/FTPS, and WebDAV. These allow you to upload to your own servers or any server that supports these protocols. Ideal if you have your own hosting or want maximum control.
⚙️ Custom Services
For advanced users, Dropshare supports S3-API compatible services and custom API connections. This lets you integrate with virtually any storage solution, even if it's not directly supported.
Getting Started
To set up your first connection, open Dropshare preferences and navigate to Connections. Click the + button to add a new connection, then select your preferred storage type. Dropshare will guide you through the setup process, which typically involves entering credentials or authenticating with your provider.
Once configured, your connection becomes available for all uploads. You can set a default connection or choose a specific one for each upload.
